Week 9 was the review week that I ended up stretching out through the month of December and adding Christmas activities to. We reviewed Bible verses. Then we started our Advent readings. I read Bartholomew’s Passage by Arnold Ytreeide each day. We had read Jotham’s Journey last year. I ended up leaving a few parts out because the books have some violence as they are geared towards older kids. We read our family devotions from the Jesse Advent Tree book that we have. This year we made ornaments to go on our tree.
We did a gingerbread house kit but we didn’t do any baking this year. We were sick the week before Christmas so the baking, cleaning and some decorating didn’t get done. But it was okay. We had a lovely Christmas with family.
I kept crafts simple. Coloring pages, painting pinecones, etc.
School is starting slow. We took two weeks to complete week 10.
The Bible story was the 10 commandments. I’m not stressing the numbers because I found out that Catholics number the 10 commandments differently than protestants. We also talked about Epiphany and the wise men visiting Jesus. I printed out a coloring page that was worked on for a few sessions. Coloring has vastly improved but there is not much motivation sometimes. We worked on our verse, Deut. 5:16 “Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you.”
School Girl completed a visual perception worksheet where she traced and then copied basic pictures (shapes and lines). She also worked on writing the letters D,d, and C,c.
The book of the week was The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss. Again, I had printed a coloring page that was started on but not finished. I think I’m going to lay off the coloring pages for a while.
Together we played with play dough a lot. We also did a lot of free drawing with chalk, markers and crayons.
